Who am I? This is a question each of us needs to be able to answer. I am more than my social status, more than what others think of me and more than I can currently understand. The day I became a child of God, my identity stopped coming from the things I did, and now it is determined by who Jesus is and what He did.
If I don’t know who I am, it will effect what I believe about myself as well as how I act. It is therefore of critical importance that we learn what the Bible says about us, because how else can we live the way God has intended us to – connected, victorious and joyful.
You can go through the list in a variety of ways: every day pick a different verse and read through it a few times slowly. Close your eyes. Does what you feel about yourself line up with what the Bible is telling you? If not, it is an opportunity to pray and talk to God about it. Ask God to show you what means and how this truth is meant to change your life.
Please don’t just rush through the list.
Ten Points on My Identity in Christ
Let’s slow this down, grab a cup of coffee and a notebook. You don’t have to finish the list in one sitting. Make each point personal.
1. My past may describe me, but only Christ defines me.
2 Corinthians 5:17 “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…”
2. I am not what I have done; I am what Jesus has done for me.
Ephesians 2:8–9 “It is by grace you have been saved… not by works…”
3. The truest thing about me is what God says about me.
Romans 8:1 “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
4. I am fully known, fully loved, and fully His.
1 John 3:1 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”
5. My value was settled at the cross, not at my performance.
Romans 5:8 “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
6. I’m not defined by my wounds—I’m marked by His.
Isaiah 53:5 “By His wounds we are healed.”
7. Shame says “unworthy”; grace says “chosen.”
1 Peter 2:9 “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation…”
8. I am not who I feel like on my worst day; I am who Christ says I am every day.
Colossians 3:3 “Your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”
9. My identity isn’t achieved; it’s received.
John 1:12 “To all who received him… he gave the right to become children of God.”
10. Christ in me is stronger than the labels on me.
Galatians 2:20 “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.”
Prayer:
Thank You Father that my identity is safe and secure.
Thank You that I don’t have to try to earn Your love.
